Revolutionizing Border Crossings: The CVision MBAS 1

Chanwanich Company Limited's Innovative Automated Immigration Terminal

Chanwanich Company Limited has designed a groundbreaking multi biometric acquisition system, the CVision MBAS 1. This automated immigration terminal is set to redefine the experience of crossing borders, combining security, durability, and user-friendly design.

The CVision MBAS 1 is a unique blend of technology and design, inspired by the need for a sturdy yet non-intimidating machine. The designers sought to create a system that would not only be secure and durable but also user-friendly, a combination of characteristics often found in medical design. The result is a terminal that is both robust and inviting, a balance rarely achieved in security products.

The terminal's unique properties lie in its function and design. It is an automated immigration/emigration terminal that scans a traveler's fingerprint and coordinates it with a separate passport reader unit. The terminal features a large display that guides users through the authentication process, with LED lights on the scanner indicating correct behavior. Two built-in cameras record users’ facial features and match it with biometric data from their passports to complete the border crossing.

The MBAS 1 is constructed from durable ABS parts, polycarbonate, and structural metal components. It features two split housings, one for the main screen unit and another for the detachable fingerprint scanner. All parts can be produced using standard manufacturing processes, requiring few special treatments. The terminal's 14" display allows clear reading of visual guides, even for the elderly, and the unit is designed to fit on a slim counter space, like those found at airport immigration or other border crossings.

The user interaction with the MBAS 1 is designed to be intuitive and user-friendly. Upon entering the immigration/emigration checkpoint, the traveler is greeted by a welcome message and an option to choose their language. The automated process guides them from scanning and registering their fingerprint to authenticating their passport before releasing the gate for the user to cross borders.

The project is currently in its prototype test stage and is expected to be completed by the end of 2014 for official use in 2015. The conceptualization and finalization of the product required three months. During this time, several visual prototypes were tested on Chanwanich employees for feedback about screen angle and scanner usability. The result is a product that is intuitive for all users, regardless of their familiarity with technology.

The CVision MBAS 1 was awarded the Golden A' Security, Safety and Surveillance Products Design Award in 2014. This prestigious award is granted to outstanding creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world. The CVision MBAS 1 is a testament to Chanwanich Company Limited's commitment to innovative design and technology.
